Who’s On First?

I guess it’s a good day to remind the world that The Who’s Who lists, compiled by publications in many fields, are just paid advertisements. You can be the biggest Who in the world’s largest Who Arena, and unless you pay the submission fee you’re not going to be listed with a big Who next to your otherwise regular name. So that’s that.

I'm David Curry. I write this blog to educate and entertain those who subscribe to the theory that Lake Geneva, Wisconsin is indeed the center of the real estate universe. When I started selling real estate 30 years ago I did so of a desire to one day dominate the activity in the Lake Geneva vacation home market. With over $1,000,000,000 in career sales, that goal is within reach. If I can help you with your Lake Geneva real estate needs, please consider me at your service. Thanks for reading.

  1. Very true. The consumer has no idea that this kind of thing is a pay-to-play ranking, and that sales performance claims are not verified. (Like “The Thousand” ranking published in the Wall Street Journal.) Agents do leverage the purchased publicity, however, and use it in marketing, pointing to their ranking in the “top x% of agents.” I don’t know if it ever results in new business for them, or if its simply enough to create a sense of distinction in a crowded field. Perhaps FOMO compels some agents to participate in these things, regardless of the value to their bottom line.
