I spent a few minutes this morning at the Lake Geneva Farmers Market and was quite impressed with the variety and quality of the produce available. I wandered for a bit, and finally settled on a large basket of tomatos that I’ll use for canning. I’ll bet you didn’t know I canned vegetables did you? The market is just one of a handful of such farmers markets that pop up all over Walworth County in the summer and fall. Lake Geneva Farmers Market

Of course, Pearces farm stand just outside of Williams Bay is the grand daddy of them all, with local sweet corn that is better than anything you’ll get anywhere. The Elegant Farmer outside of East Troy is a real winner as well, and I spent a little time last weekend there with my son. We bought some dried dill stalks for our pickles that we make, and some beautiful Orange Blossom Honey. They have all sorts of delicious options there, including their famous Apple Pie in a bag.
No fall weekend can be complete without a trip to Royal Oaks Orchard just south of Walworth. What a beautiful piece of property, and what kind helpful people that manage it. Fabulous raspberries abound this time of year, and I guarantee you that they’re bigger than the chemical induced varieties from California that you’ll find at the grocery store.
Yes, there’s lots of fun to be had in Walworth County this time of year, and not all of it need be focused on Geneva Lake. To quote Tim Allen, “Get up, Get out, and discover Wisconsin”. Or does he end that with Michigan? Either way, he can consider himself corrected.
