But Dave, Memorial Day Weekend doesn’t start until Friday after work! Oh, how wrong you are. For those committed to maximizing their Lake Geneva vacation time, Memorial Day weekend starts today. Tonight, really, but it’ll start as soon as those of you fortunate enough to own vacation homes here can cut out of work early, grab some kids or spouses or neither, load up the car, or more likely SUV, and head north. Not too far north, just far enough to reach the Highway 50 exit. Speaking of further north, there’s a disconcerting story on the front page of the Milwaukee Journal this morning involving black bears making their way as far south as Oshkosh. Don’t worry about bears in Lake Geneva, unless Jay Cutler responds to my overtures and buys a vacation home here. Back to the weekend.
I am so excited for this weekend I can barely contain myself. I’ve been planning and plotting, trying to figure out what day and time I’ll be able to escape from the throws of work and enjoy the life that I so love to sell. After all, if I were a Realtor in Lake Geneva and I wasn’t interested in boating and swimming my way through Memorial Day weekend, what kind of Realtor would I be? Right. Best not to answer. Along with my schedule for this weekend, there is another very important thing that I must tell you now.
I, David Curry, shall be wearing shorts for the vast majority of the summer. Yes, as opposed to jeans. Here’s the way I see it. If I were prancing around New York selling gross, overpriced real estate there, I’d probably have to wear a suit with a purple shirt and pink tie. And sneakers. If I were in Malibu, I’d have to wear dress pants with t-shirts and those too would be purple. However, since I sell vacation homes in Lake Geneva, I will be wearing shorts this summer, and my shirts will probably be blue. I will not wear shorts every day, but from now until October first, I will wear shorts each and every day that the forecast predicts high temperatures of at least 78 degrees. I will also make sure there is at least some sun in the forecast. I will not wear shorts to closings. If it’s raining and 77, don’t expect shorts. If it’s sunny and 78, shorts. And please don’t judge me for it. I’ve long gotten past worrying about dressing up to my clients’ expectations, and it’s not because I don’t love each and every one of my clients- it’s because I respect them so much that I don’t feel the need to impress with my fashion choices. I’ll impress with what I have to say and what I bring to the transaction, and in that, there is plenty of impressing to go around.
I want you to study this rotating, oddly hypnotic widget.
Do you see all those giant suns? Good. Did you also see the accompanying temperatures? Perfect. So this weekend is going to be fabulous, and I will be available for showings and boat rides during the following times. Yes, I said boat rides. They’ll be available to anyone who asks for one, and there will be no fuel surcharge, or charge of any sort for that matter. I have a closing Friday morning in Milwaukee, so Friday afternoon from 2 pm until 8 pm I will be available for showings or boat rides (please choose boat rides…). Saturday morning I am available until 1 pm, at which time I must embark on an unfortunate trip to an unspecified northern suburb for a U of I graduation party. Then, I must watch the Blackhawks. Sunday I currently have one customer boat ride already on the schedule, followed by showings. I will be available Sunday after 4 pm. And finally, on Monday, the only day this weekend with an iffy forecast, I’m all yours.
It’s going to be a great weekend at the lake, and it’s an ideal weekend for you to come up and take a look around at what you’re missing. If you do come up, don’t judge Lake Geneva by what you see downtown. What will you see downtown? Lots of beautiful girls, and lots of traffic. In order to truly experience Lake Geneva, you have to get out of town, and either get on the water (Geneva Lake Cruise Line boat tours are nice), or walk down the shore path. If you do either of those things, then you’ll truly get a taste of the Lake Geneva lifestyle. The lifestyle that you’re currently missing out on. See you at the Lake this weekend, and you had also better be wearing shorts. And if you’re bringing kids with, and I see that they have been either recently swimming or are about to be swimming, I just may have to wipe a proud tear from my eye.
A very appreciative Happy Memorial Day to those who have given the greatest sacrifice anyone could ever make. I’m fully aware that I can only live my glib Lake Geneva life because of the heroism of those who have fought and died for my freedom. My appreciation is profound, and unwavering.
